Raised in Massachusetts and now residing in El Cerrito, CA, Margrethe began painting at Williams College where she studied oil painting.
She decided to pursue an advanced degree in environmental economics instead of art, but continued to take art classes, paint, produce other visual art, and participate in open studios to sell her work every few years.
Early in her career, she worked primarily in oils and produced figurative and expressionist works. More recently, she has been focusing on abstract art and monoprints, working with acrylics as well as painting with oil and cold wax.
This year, she produced a book called The Hardware Store that includes poetry, stories, art, photos, and commentary. This is part of the exhibit For Real For Real at the Berliner Kunstler Program DAAD Gallery in Berlin organized by The Racial Imaginary Institute.
Margrethe also continues to make quilts, collages, and hand-bound minibooks.
Finally, she composes and creates electronic music under the artist names Kenara and Milo Mann.
Please contact her if you would like to see any of her works in person, or if you would like a price list of available works. Oil and cold wax paintings range from $50 to $100. Monoprints range from $25 to $75. Framed works have an added $50 to $100 (depending on the frame) and are not available for shipping.
